Richard Schulte on Los Peñasquitos

Excellent piece about  one of our member organizations by Richard Schulte ( link to site and article ).

Downtown San Diego has been my home for many years. My online activities reflect my love for writing, blogging, walking and photography.

The second oldest residence in San Diego County can be found inside Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve. The adobe ranch house was built in 1823 by Captain Francisco María Ruiz, who was Commandante of San Diego’s presidio. He built two small adobe buildings on Rancho Santa Maria de Los Peñasquitos, his large 8,486-acre Mexican land grant north of the Presidio and Mission San Diego de Alcalá. It was first land grant made by the Mexican government in this area, just two years after Mexico became independent from Spain ( more )

Gabe Selak

Celebration of Life

Tuesday, April 25 from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the Junípero Serra Museum

Gabe Selak, History AmbassadorDear friends –

The San Diego History Center will be holding a candlelight celebration of life for Gabe Selak and all are invited.

The event will take place at one of Gabe’s favorite locations in San Diego: The Junípero Serra Museum (2727 Presidio Drive, San Diego, CA 91013) from 6:00pm – 7:30pm.

We will be having remembrances of Gabe, songs by the San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus, and a candlelight vigil held just before sundown at 7:24 pm that evening.

We hope to see you there and hear your memories of one of San Diego’s most dedicated historians, teachers, and friend.
