On February 15, 2025, at the 2025 Annual Meeting the membership voted to dissolve the legal nonprofit organization that is the Congress of History of San Diego and Imperial Counties.
Since 1964 we have promoted “Unity and Join Effort” for the many historical organizations of the region. We’ve delighted in seeing historical sites and networking with others who love learning about the past. We’ve had wonderfully successful conferences with great speakers and authors presenting their research. We’ve supported one another in causes important to us. It was a big decision, but this is a good time to close the legal entity portion that is the Congress of History while continuing the friendships, the networking, and the support of each other’s organizations.
We want to thank the hundreds of people who have served over the years on the Board, joined a committee, helped update bylaws, or volunteered in countless ways. We encourage you to continue all the good done to promote appreciation of our region’s fascinating history.
We want you to know of several offers for Congress of History member organizations.
- If in the future you would like to do a special lecture or series and would like to use the Music Room at the Villa Montezuma Museum located at 1925 K Street, Sherman Heights Historic District, San Diego, please contact Friends of the Villa Montezuma (FOVM) president Louise Torio at 619-233-8833 or at historicsandiego@aol.com to discuss. It can seat up to 35-40 people for a lecture set up. We would be happy to host you.
- Can you use a college student intern to help you with research or historic site interpretation? Dr. David Cline, the most recent president of the Congress of History, is Professor of History and Founding Director of the SDSU Center for Public and Oral History. At the start of each semester he seeks appropriate internships for his history students (these internships are not for historic site maintenance or cleaning). If you can utilize the talents of a history major intern please contact Prof. Cline atdpcline@sdsu.edu.
